STATEMENT

I am fascinated by what is hidden from our direct perception, whether it has to do with nature, the energies surrounding us, or the unconscious mind.

With a surreal abstract style and the use of mixed media, I create artwork that captures what arises upon the exploration of those topics.

BIO

Making art has been my way of "grounding" throughout my life.

As a child, doodling was a massive resource to cope with the tedious hours spent at my desk… I needed movement and exploration, and being able to draw was "freeing" in the sense it was intuitive and unruled. I got some sense of being in "control" by letting my hand go, channelling whatever wanted to come out. Concentrating on shapes and colours was like getting into a safe place with no judgements nor mistakes, only possibilities. And, it still is.

In my world, "a picture is worth a thousand words", and with a fascination of visual language, I went into studying graphic design. I loved the conceptual and creative approach to design I learnt during my studies at the University of the West of England, and I was able to produce several "artist books" that I exhibited at the graduate show.

I have worked as a designer for years, which has been great, although it lacks the freedom and self-expression I get in fine art. After the pandemic, I felt a strong need to move and create again, and I have produced various collections of paintings, drawings, prints and illustrations since.
